No, Core Knowledge is a curriculum outline of content to be taught in language arts, history, geography, mathematics, science, and the fine arts. It is compatible with different teaching methods, promotes multi-culturalism and fairness, and is proven to prepare students for strong high school achievement. It is supported by top educators and specialists who periodically refine and update the sequence, basing any revisions on sound educational research. TPCA follows the Core Knowledge sequence for the K–8 grades; it is an excellent foundation for success in Twin Peaks Charter Academy High School, where students proceed to a strong college preparatory program with a Classical Education emphasis. See www.coreknowledge.org for more information.
Common Core standards are federally-adopted benchmarks that delineate what students should be able to do in English Language Arts and Mathematics in preparation for entry-level careers, freshman-level college courses, and workforce training programs. As one of the states which has adopted the Common Core standards in exchange for federal incentives, Colorado has agreed to use the federal Common Core-aligned assessments to replace its previous state tests for Math and Language Arts. Because we are a Colorado public school, TPCA participates in the annual Colorado Department of Education assessments.
