Volunteer Opportunities – Information
Below are descriptions of some of the categories on the Volunteer Interest sheet. Each parent is asked to mark at least two (2) interest areas on the Volunteer Interest Survey form and return it. If you do not see an area that interests you, please make a note in the box marked “Other” at the bottom of the sheet. You will be contacted regarding the areas you would like to develop. If you have a question about the form, please call 303.772.7286, ext 7075.
Please consider how you can support our school with your Time, Talent and Treasure!
Time/Talent = Giving time and expertise to help in a service area.
Treasure = Giving goods or money to support the school.
Classroom Help and General Aide
Room Parent:
Help the teacher organize classroom parties, field trips, and other projects. This job can be shared between two parents. Contact with the teacher at least once a week would be appreciated.
Classroom Help:
Assist the teacher in the classroom. Provide help with reading groups, math skills, and field trips. Weekly help with Thursday Folders is also needed. Volunteers are needed all year. We do ask that if you have committed to helping at a certain time and can not come as scheduled, you let the teacher know or find a replacement. Curriculum parents help by barcoding materials and organizing the curriculum collection. Training is provided.
Handyman Projects:
Help with general projects that need to be done around the school. This would be scheduled approximately every 3 months, and take anywhere between 2-4 hours. Please list if nights or weekends are better for you.
Vision/Hearing Screening:
Help Health Clerk with annual Vision and Hearing Screening clinic. Training is provided.
Library:
Shelve books, process new books, clean/repair books, read stories, etc. No experience is necessary; accuracy is important. Training is provided.
Fire Safety House:
Help supervise 1st – 3rd grade students during annual Fire Safety Education provided by the Longmont Fire Department.
Lunchroom/Recess:
Help supervise students during lunch and recess periods. We would like at least 1 parent per lunch period, committed to one day per week for at least a month, preferably for a quarter or the whole year. This is a great way for working parents to volunteer during the school day.
Baking/Cooking:
Provide baked goods for special events: teacher luncheons, teacher birthdays, and various events that come up during the year.
Home Projects:
Assist the teacher with projects that need to be prepared before their use in the classroom. These projects can be done at home. (Example: Scholastic book orders, cutting out items, labeling, collating packets, etc.) This type of help is on an "as needed" basis.
Copying/Office/Bulletin Boards:
Volunteers are needed to make copies for teacher and staff. It is best if these volunteers come the same day and time each week so that teachers can prepare accordingly. We also need help with office projects periodically.
Pick-up and Drop-off:
To insure the safety of our children, parents are needed to help monitor the drop-off and pick-up of students before and after school. Please choose one day a week, morning or afternoon. This could be rotated by quarters.
Athletics
Assist with Middle School athletics: co-ed Cross Country, girls Volleyball, girls Basketball, boys Basketball, co-ed Track and Field, coed Soccer.
Specials
(Music, Art, Spanish, PE, Computer) Volunteers could help in the classroom, tutoring, or other projects.
Enrichment Activities
Enrichment programs are teacher sponsored, but rely heavily on parent volunteers. Most are before or after school activities, meeting about once per week. Exception: Accelerated Reader is held during the school day. Parents are needed to help the students take tests and redeem prizes with points earned on the tests.
School Committees
Parent government is an important foundation of TPCA. The various school committees include a member of the Board of Directors and often a staff member. Volunteer parents are needed to lead committees and provide membership to ensure the success and integrity of the school. Most committees meet after school or in the evenings.
PTO
Parent Teacher Organization is responsible for fundraising and school community. Representatives attend monthly PTO meetings, usually held during the school day. PTO sponsored fundraisers: volunteers are needed to help organize and implement fundraisers throughout the year.
Special Events
Volunteers are needed to help organize/ decorate for school events throughout the year.Revised June 1, 2010
