In addition to our Core Knowledge Curriculum we have a wide verity of Special programs designed to enhance and benefit our student’s experience at TPCA. Many of these programs have been prescribed as integral to the education we provide our students other programs have become part of the fabric of the school and now no less important to TPCA.
TPCA is committed to continue to provide these programs not only to assist the less able but also to challenge the gifted, to find the thrill as athletes, to understand the beauty of music and art or to converse in another language.

- Physical Education
Our society is becoming unhealthier every year. Many occupations and pastimes are becoming more technology oriented and less physical. Our eating habits are often dismal. As a result obesity, heart disease, diabetes and other illnesses are on the rise. Your child’s Physical Education classes are the front line defense against these unhealthy trends. Participation in Physical Education has also been shown to improve performance in other subject areas as well.
For Elementary the objectives are:
1. Demonstrate proficiency in locomotor and manipulative skills.
2. Show understanding of movement concept skills.
3. Develop specialized motor skills.
4. Demonstrate basic understanding of health-related wellness concepts.
5. Show care and respect for others during class activities.
Middle School Objectives are:
1. Exhibit basic skills and understanding of various team sports.
2. Employ reading, writing and research skills while preparing written assignments.
3. Demonstrate understanding of what it takes to lead a healthful life.
4. Demonstrate care and respect for others during class activities.
- 2nd Language
TPCA provides instruction in writing and conversing in Spanish for 1st – 8th grades.
The Spanish language is the second most-common language in the United States after English. There are more Spanish speakers in the U.S. than there are speakers of French, Hawaiian, and the Native American languages combined. According to the 2007 American Community Survey conducted by the United States Census Bureau, Spanish is the primary language spoken at home by over 34 million people aged 5 or older. The U.S. is home to more than 45 million Hispanics, making it the world's second-largest Spanish-speaking community, only after Mexico and ahead of Colombia, Spain, and Argentina. Roughly half of all U.S. Spanish speakers also speak English "very well", based on the self-assessment Census question respondents.

- DoubleDose
Double Dose Reading works with individual students at their individual reading level. For students learning to read we work on phonemic awareness and phonics skills where the individual student is not proficient. For students reading to learn, we work on reading strategies, fluency and vocabulary, again at each individual student level. The sequence depends on assessment and class room observations for the individual student, even when we see students in groups.
- Music
The Core Knowledge Sequence requires all K-8 students participate in a general music class every year with performances through 5th grade. We incorporate Core Knowledge topics, Colorado State Standards along with the National Music standards throughout the year. All students learn to sing, move, play, listen and create using common terms including the music elements, composers, multicultural music, and well-known major works; and how music affects us as people. Recorders are played in grades 3-5, with band instruction starting in 4th grade, an extra singing group, Day Break Singers, meets outside of the school day, along with the Timber Wolf Band and Choir for grades 6-8. As a culminating activity, we also offer grades 5-8 to experience a musical production every 2-3 years, where acting, singing, and dancing and technology is combined to produce a lasting experience for all.

- Guided Study
Guided Study teaches research and library skills —Defining Tasks, Information Seeking Strategies, Location and Access of Materials, Appropriate Use of Materials, Synthesis of Used Materials, and Evaluation of Materials and End Products—through engaging and interactive lessons. Assignments revolve around turning students into independent learners.
The goals are by the end of this course that students will be able to;
1. Define an information problem.
2. Identify information needed.
3. Determine all possible sources.
4. Select the best sources.
5. Locate sources.
6. Find appropriate information within sources.
7. Extract relevant information.
8. Organize materials and sources.
9. Present information
10. Evaluate personal work as well as outside sources.
As former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said,
"The library is a platform for self-development, a gateway to knowledge and a catalyst for imagination."
