By the end of the first quarter, students will be able to: write variable expressions including with powers, use formulas; explore integers and absolute values, use number operations on integers, understand the four basic properties of math; use algebraic methods to solve one and two step equations. By the end of the first semester, students will be able to: simplify, compare and order fractions and mixed numbers; multiply and divide expressions with exponents; +,-,x,/ fractions and decimals; ratios and unit rates including percent change. By the end of the third quarter, students will be able to: calculate complementary and supplementary angles, Find angle measures of polygons, symmetry, reflect rotate and dilate polygons on coordinate plane; use Pythagorean Theorem, trigometric rations such as sine, cosine, and tangent; measurement of area, volume and surface area of prisms, pyramids, cylinders and cones. By the end of the second semester, students will be able to: represent functions with tables, make and interpret scatter plots, x and y intercepts, slope intercept; probability and odds, simple events, dependant and independent events; identify and simplify, add and subtract polynomials, properties of exponents to monomials.
Students will be able to: evaluate expressions using the order of operations; write expressions and inequalities to represent situations, write function rules; add, subtract, multiply and divide integers; identify rational and irrational numbers; use the distributive property and combining like terms to simplify variable expressions; find and approximate square roots; solve multistep equations; solveqeuations with variables on both sides; solve problems involving rates, ratios and proportions; use cross products to solve proportions and percents; rewrite equations and formulas; plot points in the coordinate plane; identify the slope and intercepts of a graph Students will be able to: graph linear equations; write and use equations in slope-intercept form; write equations in point-slope form and standard form; write equations for parallel and perpendicular lines; create lines of best fit; predict linear models; solve inequalities with addition and subtraction; solve inequalities with multiplication and division; solve multistep/compound inequalities; solve absolute value equations; graph linear inequalities Students will be able to: solve linear systems by graphing, substitution, and subtraction and addition; solve linear systems by multiplying; solve special types of linear systems; solve systems of linear inequalities; apply exponential properties involving products and quotients; use zero and negative exponents; use scientific notation; write and graph exponential functions of growth and decay; use the Pythagorean theroem; calculate distance and midpoint of a line segment; calculate probability and odds; find the probability of compound events; use stem-and-leaf plots, histograms, and box-and-whisker plots to display and interpret data Students will be able to: add, subtact and multiply polynomials; use FOIL method of multiplying, solve factored polynomials; factor polynomials; graph quadratic equations; solve quadratic functions by graphing, square roots, and completing the square; use the quadratic equation to solve quadratic functions; compare linear, exponential, and quadratic models; use combinations and permutations to calculate possible outcomes; graph square root functions; simplify radical equations
