Teal Maxwell Richards is a Colorado native from the Western Slope, just outside of Grand Junction. Now Teal lives in Lyons with her husband, daughter and two dogs. When she’s not at TPCA, Teal can be found outside running, hiking, or skiing. She also loves to read, travel, and watch live music.

Teal attended Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Educational Studies and Psychology. She also holds a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a literacy emphasis from CU Boulder and is currently working on a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy. Her research interests include exploring charter school autonomy and sustainability. Teal has worked as a kindergarten and second grade teacher, as well as a literacy specialist. She has over 8 years experience working in Core Knowledge schools.

As Dean of Academics, Teal is excited to help TPCA grow as a K–12 organization. To ensure the alignment of K–12 systems, she plans to work closely with the Curriculum and Accountability Committees. Teal has a deep appreciation for the families and teachers who make TPCA so special, and is excited to work with them to help TPCA students reach their potential.
